Replacing the old Oli 74 outlet valve with the newer style can be frustrating and time consuming. The outlet valve is most likely replaced when the water continues to run into the toilet bowl after flushing or you are tapping one side of the flush to stop it running. It is important to read the instructions and watch the video first before removing the old valve. The first thing to do is check if you have a spare rubber outlet valve that sits on the back of the grey plate behind the push plate. It may be best to replace the rubber first, put the original outlet valve back in the cistern and test to see if it fixes the issue. If not, then simply remove the rubber, place it back on the back of the grey cover and begin the process of replacing the old outlet valve with the newer version. The most important part of putting in the new version is to ensure that you don’t break the outlet valve guide when removing the old outlet valve. The guide is a blue or grey part that is fixed to the back of the cistern and ensures the outlet valve sits tightly in the base of the cistern. Next, check the cistern tank itself has not been warped or pushed out of shape. This can also cause water to leak through into the bowl. If this is the case, OLI recommend sliding something down in front of the tank to help push it back towards the wall to keep it in shape. Next, ensure you rotate the new valve, lift it up so that you can bend the outlet valve and maneuver it into the base of the cistern. Then, simply put back the parts in the reverse order you removed them (central block, mechanical lever kit/pneumatic kit) and flush 2-3 times to test if the issue has resolved. If the issue hasn’t been resolved, the next best choices are to replace the inlet valve, or the pneumatic kit (if your cistern is pneumatic, it will have blue and white hoses in the cistern).
Is this the right valve for your cistern? To confirm, remove your flush plate and look at the back inside wall of the cistern tank. It should be embossed with “OLI 74”. Important Note: This is the new rigid plastic version. It replaces the discontinued older model that featured a flexible black rubber tube in…
